On-site promotion meeting for mechanization of tea production held in Guzhang County

An on-site promotion meeting for mechanization of tea production in Hunan Province was held at Niujiaoshan Tea Garden Base in Morong Town of Guzhang County, Xiangxi on November 25. It aimed to accelerate the mechanization of tea production and promote the high-quality development of the tea industry. Over 300 people including representatives from universities and research institutes in Hunan Province, large growers and tea enterprises participated in the meeting.

As a traditional advantageous industry in Guzhang County, the tea industry is an important way for farmers to increase income and become rich.

In recent years, the county government has actively promoted the mechanization of tea production, and improved the efficiency and quality of tea production by introducing advanced, efficient and intelligent tea machines.

At present, the county has built 153 mechanized production lines (including 18 automated production lines), with an annual processing capacity of over 18,000 tons and a mechanized processing rate of up to 95%, greatly improving the economic benefits of tea production. There were a static exhibition and sales area and a mechanical dynamic demonstration area at the event site. In the static display area, more than 30 companies including Huaihua Zhengtai Agricultural Machinery and Chongqing Shineray Power showcased more than 100 sets of new equipment for tea production and processing, including drones, mountain transport vehicles and field management machines.

In the dynamic demonstration area, the fully mechanized operation of key processes such as tea plantation cultivation, weeding, fertilization, pruning, and plant protection won rounds of applause from the guests present.

Plant protection drones operated flexibly and sprayed accurately over tea gardens. The tea garden management machine quickly shuttled through the fields and operated efficiently. The tea picking and trimming machines showed excellent performance. These new technologies gave them a deeper understanding of the full mechanization of tea production.

Xiangxi Prefecture is a well-known tea producing area in China, with a tea plantation area of 910,000 mu (about 60,666.67 hectares), ranking first in the province. The output value is close to 10 billion yuan, and over 500,000 people are engaged in the tea industry. Tea industry has helped local villagers get rid of poverty and become rich.

In particular, Guzhang County, Baojing County, and Jishou City have been rated as a national key county for tea production, the hometown of Chinese famous tea and one of the top 100 tea counties in China respectively.

In recent years, the prefecture has strengthened agricultural machines policies benefiting farmers, and the types and quantities of tea machinery have shown an upward trend.

Through the application of intelligent machinery, the transformation of old and new driving forces in tea garden management has been accelerated, management time has been shortened, and production efficiency has been improved, comprehensively promoting the high-quality development of the tea industry.
